How to use Pantry

A quick guide to every feature

Welcome 👋

Pantry helps you keep a shared shopping list, save recipes, and plan meals. Use the tabs in the header (List, Calendar, Recipes) to move between the three main areas.

Shopping list basics

  1. 1

    Add an item

Tap the + button, type a name, pick a category and optional quantity, then save. Items are grouped by category for fast aisle-by-aisle shopping.

  2. 2

    Check items off

Tap the checkbox next to an item as you shop. Checked items stay visible so you can uncheck them later or restore from history.

  3. 3

    Edit or delete

Tap the pencil icon to rename or recategorize an item. The trash icon removes it — deleted items can be restored from the history menu.

  4. 4

    Search and filter

Use the search bar to find an item, or filter by category using the chips.

Photos & thumbnails

  1. 1

    Add a photo

Open an item and upload a product photo. The thumbnail appears next to the item in the list and persists across sessions.

  2. 2

    Accessibility

Each thumbnail automatically gets descriptive alt text based on the item name.

Catalog & duplicates

  1. 1

    Catalog

Tap the settings icon in the header to manage your saved catalog — items you frequently buy. Add them to the list in one tap.

  2. 2

    Merge duplicates

When duplicates are detected, a merge button appears in the header. It combines quantities and keeps a single row.

Import a recipe

  1. 1

    From a URL

Paste any recipe URL in the import dialog. Ingredients are extracted and you can add them straight to your shopping list.

  2. 2

    Auto-saved

Imported recipes are saved to the Recipes tab automatically so you can reuse them later.

Saved recipes

  1. 1

    Browse

Open the Recipes tab to see everything you've imported or created. Search by name or ingredient.

  2. 2

    Create manually

Use New Recipe to add a recipe by hand — type one ingredient per line.

  3. 3

    Add to list

Open a recipe and push its ingredients to the shopping list in a single tap.

Meal calendar

  1. 1

    Plan meals

Switch to the Calendar tab to schedule meals by day or week. Assign saved recipes to specific dates.

  2. 2

    Generate shopping list

Push the week's ingredients to your shopping list when you're ready to shop.
